Here are just some of the projects, initiatives, services and improvements that Lumon has delivered for District 3.
Community Initiatives:
- Established Community Redevelopment Area Clean Sweep Program – creating 28 temporary employment/training opportunities for constituents in District 3.
- First-time Summer Youth Camps in the history of Escambia County at Brownsville and Ebonwood Centers, which created two full-time county positions and four temporary positions.
- First-time Senior Programs – Ebonwood and Wedgewood Centers.
- Intern Program – allows for each district to hire intern(s) for training/mentoring.
- Summer Youth Employment Program – hiring over 100 youth for eight weeks to work in county government.
- Created Community Redevelopment Districts in Ensley and Oakfield areas.
- Created a program to repair roofs for disadvantaged homeowners in District 3.
- Established a Direct Assistance Program that allows citizens to request assistance with utilities, rent, mortgage, and medication.
- Block by Block Training Program – partnering with local businesses to train/hire individuals who are at a disadvantage for normal hire and pay.
- Affordable Housing Projects in Montclair – purchased over 16 dilapidated buildings/vacant lots and moving forward with the construction of two homes near Baptist Hospital.
- Initiated the Discretionary Fund account for commissioners – which allows for each commissioner to use $50,000 to assist small businesses and or organizations with events.
- Partnered with Lincoln Park, Ensley and Montclair Elementary schools recognizing students and staff for outstanding accomplishments throughout the school year.
Park and Community Center Improvements:
- Brownsville Community Center – Installed new playground and outdoor fitness equipment
- Brent Ballpark – New scoreboard for football field – partnered with Lacrosse Association to provide new recreation opportunities to the community – ballfield light repairs and upgrades
- John R Jones – Purchased and installed new football scoreboard for Ensley Football Program; constructed 14 new baseball scoreboxes; ADA upgrades to restroom facilities
- Ebonwood – Seating around the walking track
- Englewood – Partnered with Keep Pensacola Beautiful to install a Harmony Park (outdoor musical instruments)
- Lincoln Park – New playground unit
- Old Ensley – New playground
- Oakfield Acres – Installed outdoor fitness equipment; installed new park rules and signs
- Raymond Riddle – Partnered with City of Pensacola to offer youth sports programming in the “W” Street area
- Westernmark/Diego Circle – Added electrical service to the pavilion for special events
